2010 NBA Finals: The Ron Artest Story

6.18.10 3:35 am by Alex

Ron Artest has had an almost inconceivably up-and-down NBA career. He’s dealt with circumstances – most notably the famous brawl in Michigan – that could have ended his career, but still supplied us with plenty of entertaining moments. After coming to Los Angeles via free agency during the off-season - a move some questioned – it all paid off for Ron tonight, as the Lakers clinched their second championship in as many years. Artest, who has struggled at times during the series, came to play tonight, with 20 points, 5 rebound, 5 steals and solid defense. He seems to have turned the corner in is life and is handling his previously out of control emotions better, but that doesn’t mean he’s not still a character. As an addendum to my previous post on Artest, here are the best moments from Ron Artest in the 2009-2010 season:

Ron Artest Says – Ron Artest says he used to drink Hennessy at halftime, Ron Artest says he suffered memory loss after concusion, Ron Artest says the media coverage of Tiger Woods is unfair, Ron Artest says Trevor Ariza’s a better player.

The Haircut – Not the first time he’s had unique hairdos, but this one was probably the most colorful. It’s supposedly “defense” in Hebrew.

Flip Murray’s Ridiculous Shot That Didn’t Count

3.31.10 12:35 am by Alex

Last night, during the Bulls-Suns game, Flip Murray hit a ridiculous half-court hook shot with no time left at the end of the 3rd quarter. Unfortunately, he got it off just a second too late, but it’s still worth a look, but first, three random Flip Murray facts: real first name is Ronald; played for Division II Shaw University; has been with 7 teams since entering the league in 2002.

LeBron in the Dunk Contest?

8.03.09 2:13 pm by Matt

During All-Star 2009, LeBron threatened to “clean up” the Dunk Contest. He hinted that if the rules were tightened up and he talked some fellow superstars into it, he’d participate.

Here’s the thing: sure, LeBron can jump high. REALLY high. But there’s just a limit to how high people can jump. Through the legs and a variant thereof is the go-to move in the finals every year, which leads to boredom, which led to a push toward creativity, costumes, and chicanery of all sorts.

Since LeBron and his superstar competitors can only repeat the through-the-legs so many times, I’m here to bring some ideas to the table for an All-Star filled Dunk Contest.

The Bummer of 2010

7.26.09 10:02 am by Matt

NBA analysis seems to consist of relating every move to the Summer of 2010, dreaming of players for teams to get during the Summer of 2010, or just talking about the Summer of 2010 for no other reason. The Summer of 2010 probably has a player card on ESPN.com. “The Knicks are smart to pick up those contracts that will expire in the Summer of 2010 so they can make a run at LeBron James.” “That’s a great trade for the Pistons, clearing that cap space aimed at Dwyane Wade in the Summer of 2010.”

Well I say PHOOEY. Here’s why we’re in for a big, massive, giant, huge BUMMER of 2010:

Aq’s FAQs 3: Shaq to Cleveland?

7.03.09 9:36 am by Matt

A huge, monumental, incredible trade occurred last week. Shaquille O’Neal was purchased for the low, low price of expiring contracts. What are the ramifications, you ask? That’s why I’m here. Some of fans’ burning questions about the Shaq-to-Cleveland trade.

Q: How will Mike Brown integrate Shaq into the offense?
A: He’ll think up a second play. Play 1: Stand around and watch LeBron. Play 2: Stand around and watch Shaq. He spent all of Friday working on that. See, here’s page 3 of Brown’s playbook.

Charles Barkley Must Be Desperate for Attention

5.16.09 12:06 am by Alex

If you hang around the internet a lot, you’ve probably seen the video of another failed attempt by Charles Barkley to play golf. His golf swing is infamous and this particular shot hits a specator in the head. (Note: As I’m writing this, ESPN played the video on NBA Fastbreak) There’s no way, given the way he swings, that he’s actually attempting to be good at golf. Its too awkward and I’m almost certain he just does it to retain the attention of the media. Anyway, here’s the video:
