2010 NBA Finals: The Ron Artest Story

6.18.10 3:35 am by Alex

Ron Artest has had an almost inconceivably up-and-down NBA career. He’s dealt with circumstances – most notably the famous brawl in Michigan – that could have ended his career, but still supplied us with plenty of entertaining moments. After coming to Los Angeles via free agency during the off-season - a move some questioned – it all paid off for Ron tonight, as the Lakers clinched their second championship in as many years. Artest, who has struggled at times during the series, came to play tonight, with 20 points, 5 rebound, 5 steals and solid defense. He seems to have turned the corner in is life and is handling his previously out of control emotions better, but that doesn’t mean he’s not still a character. As an addendum to my previous post on Artest, here are the best moments from Ron Artest in the 2009-2010 season:

Ron Artest Says – Ron Artest says he used to drink Hennessy at halftime, Ron Artest says he suffered memory loss after concusion, Ron Artest says the media coverage of Tiger Woods is unfair, Ron Artest says Trevor Ariza’s a better player.

The Haircut – Not the first time he’s had unique hairdos, but this one was probably the most colorful. It’s supposedly “defense” in Hebrew.

The Bummer of 2010

7.26.09 10:02 am by Matt

NBA analysis seems to consist of relating every move to the Summer of 2010, dreaming of players for teams to get during the Summer of 2010, or just talking about the Summer of 2010 for no other reason. The Summer of 2010 probably has a player card on ESPN.com. “The Knicks are smart to pick up those contracts that will expire in the Summer of 2010 so they can make a run at LeBron James.” “That’s a great trade for the Pistons, clearing that cap space aimed at Dwyane Wade in the Summer of 2010.”

Well I say PHOOEY. Here’s why we’re in for a big, massive, giant, huge BUMMER of 2010:

Thoughts on Bulls-Celtics Game 6

5.02.09 1:10 am by Alex

If you didn’t see the Bulls-Celtics game Thursday night or highlights off it : 1. You must live in a cave, 2. Go here right now and come back when you’re done. Here are a few observations:

When did Rondo become such a punk? In game 5 he decided to slap Brad Miller in the face (Miller later proved in game 6, that he could make the exact same shot as long as he wasn’t getting his eye poked out, and that he could make clutch free throws if blood wasn’t pouring from his nose). Rondo continued his violence in game 6 by throwing Kirk Hinrich into the scorer’s table. He needs to chill out or he’s going to get himself in trouble.

Another crucial play was the Joakim Noah got a steal and victimized Paul Pierce on the other end. What was Pierce thinking? First, a bad pass attempt. Second, you’ve got 5 fouls, do you really want to be sitting on the bench with 35 seconds left? And, Third, if you’re going to foul him, make sure you knock the ball alway so the sequence doesn’t become immortalized in .gif fashion and placed in the forum signatures of Bulls’ fans everywhere.

Its been a great series, and for someone like me, who didn’t grow up watching the NBA, game 6 may have been the most exciting game I’ve ever watched.  I’d like to see these teams make a deep playoff run, but a 7 game series with OTs galore is going to take its toll. Pierce and Rondo played 51 and 58 minutes last night, respectively, and the Bulls’ Rose and Salmons had 59 and 60. In the next round, they’ll face an Orlando team that played no overtime in their series against Philly, and Dwight Howard, who sat out their series clinching victory, so I think its safe to say Orlando will have an advantage moving on.
