Now that the NBA playoffs are over and we are still a few months away from significant baseball games, many a sports fan decides to turn his or her attention to the upcoming NFL season and its conjoined twin, fantasy football! Chances are if you’ve glanced at a magazine rack at the grocery store or browsed a bit on ESPN.com then you’ve already seen some fantasy football coverage. It’s really not surprising, considering there are estimates that the fantasy sports industry has a three to four billion dollar impact with American football being one of the biggest contributors. If you’re a fantasy football season veteran or an eager first timer, there are certain things every fantasy football player should know. Now that the 2010 NFL Draft has come and gone, sports writers and other experts have set forth grading each team’s drafts and judging this year’s top picks. While opinions vary across the board, one point has been made clear by fans of the National Football League: the 25th pick of the draft, former Florida Gators and new Denver Broncos quarterback Tim Tebow, is already a favorite. Despite the fact that Tebow will likely begin his NFL career as a third-string player–behind incumbent starter Kyle Orton and new trade acquisition Brady Quinn–his #15 Broncos jersey was the #1-selling NFL jersey in the month of April 2010, and set records for the highest-selling draft jersey in NFL history. Even Donovan McNabb’s high-profile trade to the Washington Redskins–a former franchise quarterback with a Super Bowl appearance and 11 years of NFL service–was only exciting enough to make #2 on the list.

Ah, it’s that time of year. March Madness is upon us. We get to see up-and-coming basketball stars compete in games with the greatest of consequences. Sadly though, most of these players will only remain in college for a year, and will then head on to the professional ranks. But what if these guys stuck around until they were seniors? Up until the mid 70s, players were required to be four years removed from high school graduation in order to sign an NBA contract. Since then, the rules have been modified, and players often leave early, leaving us to wonder, what their college careers would have looked like had they remained in school.
We’ve taken the liberty of going through the last 3 years worth of NBA early entrants, and seeding the top 16 based on what could have been. It’s amazing to see some of these lineups, and the top few seeds have especially stout starting fives. We all love upsets, but it’s hard to imagine Northern Iowa or Cornell upsetting one of these teams. Today and tomorrow we’ll announce the 16 teams. There will be a poll below each match-up, which will be open for the next week (Polls are closed, check back soon for the Elite Eight). Next weekend, we’ll come up with an Elite Eight and go from there. Here are the four teams from both the West and Midwest regions. Be sure to check back tomorrow for the both the East and South regions. (* indicates player no longer with team in reality)

A huge, monumental, incredible trade occurred last week. Shaquille O’Neal was purchased for the low, low price of expiring contracts. What are the ramifications, you ask? That’s why I’m here. Some of fans’ burning questions about the Shaq-to-Cleveland trade.
Q: How will Mike Brown integrate Shaq into the offense?
A: He’ll think up a second play. Play 1: Stand around and watch LeBron. Play 2: Stand around and watch Shaq. He spent all of Friday working on that. See, here’s page 3 of Brown’s playbook.
