A few key notes to go along with this graphic related to the statistical exploration of the new NFL extra point rule:

  • There had been four consecutive seasons with single-digit extra point misses prior to this season (when that number jumped to 71).
  • There were more extra points missed this season (71), than the previous seven years combined.
  • Kickers would have to make 9700 extra points in a row for this season’s extra point percentage to match last season’s.
  • Four kickers (Adam Vinatieri, Steven Hauschka, Dan Carpenter, Jason Myers) finished the season with a higher success rate on field goals than extra points.
