Spin the Globe w/ Brian

2.20.10 5:22 pm by Contributor

Been awhile.  Sorry.  I got stuff to do.  I’d say, “you do too”, but clearly you don’t, as you’re most likely avoiding any actual work by reading this column.  Time spent doing work is a pretty valuable thing, yet you’ve deemed reading this even more valuable, and I appreciate that.  With these lofty expectations in mind, I’ll try to match your demand with some decent supply.

I can usually stomach Colin Cowherd’s radio show for about 10 minutes at a time.  I’m a big fan of talk radio (mostly sports, with a bit of politics mixed in as long as it’s not idiotic), and he tends to be my only option around 12:30-1:00ish, which is usually when I’m heading back to the office from my lunch hour.  When the divorced egomaniac isn’t busy giving life advice or kissing the very ass he verbally kicked three days ago, I love his “Spin the Globe” segments, where he tries to hit most of the relevant sports in season for a few minutes at a time.  It’s quick, intelligent, informative, and easier to digest than a long winded rant.  With this in mind, I’ll try to keep a few of these mixed in during the spots between the full length features.

Super Bowl Quick Hits and Links

Well, it’s over. Football season is over. Can I hibernate until September? It’s the day after Super Bowl XLIV, so let the over-analysis begin:

CM’s Quick Hits: Monday, July 13

7.13.09 4:55 pm by CM

  1. Slow sports week, as you can tell buy the media coverage around the dunk that could have been. Lebron getting dunked on is the biggest non-story since Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt were married. Speidi > Dunkgate.
  2. Home Tun Derby tonight, I am taking Pujols. Just like the U.S. Open in golf, I bet on the best story going in to events like this. Pujols at home on a triple crown season is that story.
  3. Brock Lesnar is a BEAST and is a perfect champion. America can not wait for this man to lose, he has brought a WWE character with him to the octagon and it is going to make him a rich man.

CM’s Quick Hits: Tuesday, July 7

7.07.09 12:02 pm by CM

Editor’s Note: I said we would be doing CM’s Quick Hits every Monday, but I totally lost track of what day it was yesterday. My apologies. We’ll get back on schedule next week. Again, be sure to check out CM’s blog “Our Same Difference“.
  1. If you weren’t cheering for Andy Roddick Sunday during his epic final against Federer, you are not American. Him winning would have been as big as Chestnut bringing the binge eating title back to America one more time, and on forth of July weekend no less. USA USA USA.
  2. The Lakers pulled a fast one on the league this week. Watch the Ron Artest to the Lakers deal to lead to 70 win season, just like the Worm Rodman experiment in Chicago. In addition to making their team exponentially better with Artest, and Bowen being traded to the Bucks, do any contending teams have someone to stop Kobe?
  3. Celtics picked up Sheed, going for the same lightning in a bottle scenario that the lakers are trying. This will blow up in their face. Sorry Boston. Better luck next year.
  4. All Major League Baseball teams wore red hats this weekend. They looked stupid as hell, and the only one who can pull off a red baseball hat is Fred Durst of Limp Bizkit fame.

CM’s Quick Hits: Monday, June 29

6.29.09 4:55 pm by CM

Editor’s Note: I’d like to welcome another contributor. CM Sexton has his own blog at http://www.oursamedifference.com/. He’ll be bringing some of his perspective to TSG every Monday with his Quick Hits. If you enjoy this post, be sure to check out his blog and follow him on Twitter.

  1. Could the draft have gone worse for David Stern? The three most marketable players are now in Golden State, Clipperville & Minnesota? The NBA should rig these lotteries, get the big players in the big markets.
  2. The Big Cactus is now the Big Shaqalier. But really, he should be called the big ego. If Shaq helps Lebron win his first title, he will be responsible for Kobe Bryant, Dwayne Wade and LeBron getting their first titles. His ego will need its own wing in Springfield.
  3. Manny playing for the Isotopes is unacceptable. If he wants to rehab or they want to allow suspended players to play in the minors he should have played every game down in the minors without pay.
