10 Worst NBA Tattoos

5.27.09 9:24 pm by Alex

Visit galleries of tattoos to help you choose the right tattoo designs that will look good and would fit your personality.

With a little help from some of our twitter followers, here are the 10 worst NBA tattoos based on size, color, lack of explanation and/or overall gaudiness. This list is strictly active players; hopefully Dennis Rodman won’t be offended.

10. Luke Walton, L.A. Lakers Apparently its a tribute to the Grateful Dead and his brothers, but it just looks like stick people dribbling basketballs in a circle. Its also nearly impossible to find a good photo of his right arm. Maybe he’s embarrassed by it.

Vick Doesn’t Deserve a Second Chance, but Give it to Him Anyway

5.21.09 7:43 pm by Alex

Former Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Vick is back in the news this week after being released from prison to serve out the remainder of his dogfighting sentence at his home in Virginia. Now the questions are being asked: Should Vick be allowed to return to the NFL? Does he deserve a second chance? What team would be crazy enough to take a chance on him? Tony Dungy and the president of the Humane Society seem to think he’s sorry, so what should happen now?

Commissioner Roger Goodell has a tough decision to make it seems, but as far as I’m concerned the precedent has already been set. Adam “Pacman” Jones was involved in numerous incidents, including one where he was indirectly responsible for the shooting and resulting paralysis of a Las Vegas bouncer, but, after apologizing, he was reinstated. There’s no reason Vick shouldn’t receive the same treatment. The things he did were horrible, but he went through the justice system, did his time and it’s time to move on. Maybe he doesn’t deserve a second chance, but we should give it to him anyway.

People argue: “We don’t want him to be a role model.” Too late. Kids watched him for years be the most exciting player in the league. They know what happened. Would you rather have your kids remember the Michael Vick who blew his chance, went to jail and then went back to the same activity when society wouldn’t take him back, or the Michael Vick who blew it, learned his lesson, apologized, got his life back on track and went on to do some good?

And, of course, PETA is up in arms about this. They are demanding that Vick undergo psychiatric testing and suggest that he fits “the American Psychiatric Association profile for anti-social personality disorder.” He’s not a psychopath; he grew up in a culture that condones dogfighting. Goodell is accountable to the fans of his sport, not these wackos, and the fans say let him back in

MLB Q1: The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly

5.19.09 1:54 pm by Alex

The first quarter of the MLB season is coming to a close and its as good a time as any to take a look back at what we’ve seen so far. First, lets take a look at who might win the end-of-season awards if things ended today:

American League MVP – Evan Longoria, 3B, Tampa Bay Rays – In less than a full season, Longoria has turned himself into one of the elite young players in the league. This year, he leads the league in RBI, and is in the top 10 in HRs and batting average and the Rays, who were off to a slow start, look to be getting back on track. Expect him to contend for the triple crown, if not this season, then in the years to come.  Also in the running: Justin Morneau, Aaron Hill, Miguel Cabrera.

National League MVP – Albert Pujols, 1B, St. Louis Cardinals – This was a close one, but Pujols is more likely than the other candidates to keep up these numbers throughout the remainder of the season. His batting average is down a little this year, but his stolen base numbers are up and the Cardinals are right in the mix at the top of the NL Central. Also in the running: Adrian Gonzalez, Ryan Zimmerman, Raul Ibanez.

AL Cy Young – Zack Greinke, SP, Kansas City Royals – No-brainer here. He’s 7-1, with the one loss coming in a 1-0 duel with Joe Saunders, and a 0.60 ERA that leads the majors. With a career ERA near 4.00, It’ll be interesting to see if Greinke and the Royals can keep it up. Also in the running: Roy Halladay.

Kobe Doin’ Work Running Diary

5.17.09 9:06 am by Alex

Spike Lee’s new documentary “Kobe Doin’ Work”, premiered tonight on ESPN. If you missed it, they’ll be replaying it at least 5 times in the next week. I had to DVR it and was going to tweet my way through it, but I know its annoying when one person’s constant twittering consumes your feed, so I wrote them down here as I watched. Its Simmons-esque, except shorter and with links.

0:00 - Spike Lee stands on the Lakers’ court and tells us some background info. Basically, they filmed Kobe for about 3 hours, and thats it. I was hoping it was more of a day in the life of Kobe. This could be boring.

0:03 - Kobe and company run out on the court. I’m disappointed by the lack of pregame hijinks a la Lebron and Shaq.

0:05 - The camera on the ceiling is cool. They should utilize this more often during games for highlights and such.

Charles Barkley Must Be Desperate for Attention

5.16.09 12:06 am by Alex

If you hang around the internet a lot, you’ve probably seen the video of another failed attempt by Charles Barkley to play golf. His golf swing is infamous and this particular shot hits a specator in the head. (Note: As I’m writing this, ESPN played the video on NBA Fastbreak) There’s no way, given the way he swings, that he’s actually attempting to be good at golf. Its too awkward and I’m almost certain he just does it to retain the attention of the media. Anyway, here’s the video:
